The latest Lodge of Discoveries 9409 meeting was held on Thursday 20th March at the Tivoli Hotel in Lagos. The Lodge meeting followed the latest Convocation of the Chapter of Discoveries 9409 held on the same day. Both meetings demonstrated great ritual and teamwork from the officers and members alike. Pierre Caeiro, Grand Inspector of the Group of Lodges in Portugal, commented “One of the most excellent convocation and lodge meetings I have been to”.
The lodge meeting included the raising of Brother Barton to Master Mason and thus completing his journey in craft freemasonry. Phil Egginton, the Lodge of Discoveries Worshipful Master, thanked WBro Quinton Green, VWBro Pierre Caeiro and WBro Steve Johnston, other Past Masters, for their assistance in the ceremony.
Timing is everything and five minutes can be a nightmare! Five minutes from closing the Lodge a mobile phone went off! One very embarrassed brother ran to his case to turn it off and the whole Lodge burst into laughter. Earning said Brother, a special informal toast from the Master at the Festive Board, for providing, “the most entertaining moment of the evening”!
The Festive Board also proved to be one of the best with good food, drinks and more laughter. Raffle prizes included a bottle of fine cognac donated by one of our Honorary members. This in turn was won by Larry Woloncewich, who was visiting from Tawatinaw Lodge No. 71 in Canada. Larry proceeded to share this amongst the brethren much to their appreciation.
The lodge was also very honoured to have RWBro David Medlock as a guest of the secretary, John Bergstrom-Potter. David is one of the Assistant Grand Masters of the United Grand Lodge of England. The Secretary certainly knows how to keep his Guests a secret, as Phil, the Worshipful Master said “I had no idea he was coming”! David was overwhelmed with his reception. He sent John the following message the next day, “I have just about recovered from an excellent Thursday evening. The hospitality was second to none and I found the spirit of the lodge exactly as it should be. The enjoyment of the brethren was self-evident and I will certainly make every effort to attend future meetings and make full use of my new tie. Thank you for all your help “. David purchased a Group of Lodges in Portugal tie to use in the future.
