Pierre Caeiro, our Grand Inspector of the Group of Lodges in Portugal, has been currently visiting the UK. He writes
“One of the aspects of Freemasonry that I love is making new friends. I was at a loose end yesterday, so I contacted the local masonic centre in Surbiton in the Province of Surrey to find out which Lodges were meeting. Lumen Lodge no. 4922 were carrying out a Passing, and I promptly invited myself to the meeting and what a great meeting it was. I was immediately made to feel welcome and witnessed a superb ceremony. Such a great spirit in the Lodge, followed by a hugely enjoyable festive board, comprising :
– Aromatic shredded duck pancakes
– Chef’s choice sorbet
– Sweet & sour pork Hong Kong style
– Lychee cheesecake.

“On Saturday, I visited Lodge Light From The East no. 4186 in the Province of Surrey. The Lodge was founded by a number of brethren who had served in The East Surrey Regiment during World War 1 in India, hence the Lodge’s name and banner. The Worshipful Master, Adam Phipps, delivered an excellent initiation ceremony. Adam’s grandfather, Lt.Col. D.A.M. Phipps was the Provincial Grand Master in Surrey 2001 to 2006. Coincidentally, Adam’s father was the photographer at my wedding!
The festive board comprised:
– Deep fried Somerset brie with a berry compote
– Classic chicken chasseur with creamy mash and chef’s vegetables
– Light lemon cheesecake
